The System Information Window displays a variety of information about your computer. The following information is displayed for any computer running System 6.05 or later. Some items may not appear if you are running an earlier version of the System.
The title of this window will change to reflect the current display. The four possibilities are Hardware Information, Audiovisual Information, Version Information, and Miscellaneous Information.
There are four sections to the System Information display, each of which can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate icon.
The first icon is the Hardware icon. It is selected when the window is opened. The information presented in addition to the User Name is:
• Computer: The model of the computer on which the test is being run.
• Native CPU: The actual processor in the machine
• Nominal CPU: The processor being emulated
• FPU: The Floating Point Unit type, if one is present.
• MMU Type: The Memory Management Unit type, if one is present.
• Physical RAM: How much RAM is installed.
• Logical RAM: How much RAM is accessible (may include Virtual Memory).
• ROM Version: The version number of the ROMs.
• ROM Size: The size of the ROMs in Kilobytes.
The second icon is the Audiovisual icon. When it is selected, the information presented is:
• QuickDraw Version: The version of QuickDraw in use.
• Display Manager: The presence of the Display Manager.
• Color Depth: The bit depth of the active display.
• Maximum Color Depth: The maximum bit depth supported by the active display.
• Screen Size: The size in pixels of the active display.
• Screen Resolution: The Dots Per Inch of the screen horizontally and vertically.
• Outline Fonts: The presence of outline font support.
• Stereo Output: The presence of stereo output support.
• Stereo Input: The presence of stereo output support.
• 16 bit audio I/O: The presence of 16 bit audio support.
• Speech Manager: The presence of the Speech Manager.
The third icon is the Version icon. When it is selected, the information presented in addition to the User Name is:
• System Version
• Finder Version
• A/UX Version
• Quicktime Version
• AppleTalk Version
• Time Manager Version
• Text Edit Version
• Comm. Toolbox Version
• Script Manager Version
Finally, there is the Miscellaneous icon. When it is selected, information that didn't really fit elsewhere is presented:
